Terms of service

These terms apply to your use of the Moguru app. By using Moguru you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

1. What Moguru does

Moguru turns Japanese text you photograph or paste into vocabulary flashcards, and schedules reviews so you remember them. Word choices and English meanings are generated by an AI model. Readings come from the JMdict dictionary.

2. Your account

• The app creates an anonymous account for you automatically. You can link it to Google or Apple sign-in to keep your progress across devices.
• You're responsible for activity on your account. Keep your sign-in secure.
• You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age in your country) to use Moguru.

3. Your content

• You keep all rights to the photos and text you capture. You give us permission to process them only so we can generate your cards (see the Privacy Policy).
• Only scan or paste material you lawfully own or have lawful access to, and only for your own personal study. Don't upload content that is illegal.
• Your photo and text are deleted as soon as your cards are made. Only one short sentence per card is kept, and it's deleted when you delete the card. Decks can't be shared with other users.

4. AI-generated content

Meanings, word choices and deck titles are produced by an AI model and can be wrong or incomplete. Moguru is a study aid, not a professional translation service. Don't rely on it where accuracy matters (for example medical, legal or safety information). You can edit any meaning in the app.

5. Free plan and subscriptions

• The free plan includes a limited number of captures per week and a few explanations to try. Captures that produce no cards don't count toward the limit.
• Premium includes unlimited captures for normal personal use. To keep the service fair and affordable, a daily fair-use limit applies.
• Paid subscriptions (when offered) are billed through Google Play or the Apple App Store and renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel at any time in your store account settings. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep access until the end of the paid period.
• Free trials convert to a paid subscription unless you cancel before the trial ends.
• Refunds are handled by Google or Apple under their refund policies.
• We may change prices or plan features. We'll give notice before a price change affects an existing subscription, as the stores require.

6. Acceptable use

Don't misuse Moguru. That includes trying to break or overload the service, get around the free-plan limits, access other people's data, reverse-engineer the service beyond what the law allows, or use it to build a competing dataset.

7. Intellectual property

The Moguru app, name, mascot and characters (Moguru, Daru and Shimi), artwork and design belong to us. Dictionary data is © the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group and used under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 licence. Other third-party components are listed in the app under Settings → About & licences.

8. Copyright concerns and takedowns

Moguru doesn't store or publish the pages you scan. If you believe content in Moguru infringes your rights, contact us at help@gruuw.com with the work concerned, the content you're referring to, and your contact details. We'll review each request promptly and remove content where appropriate.

9. Availability and changes

We work to keep Moguru running, but we can't promise it will always be available or error-free. We may change, add or remove features. If we make material changes to these terms, we'll update the effective date and let you know in the app.

10. Ending your use

You can stop using Moguru and delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete account. We may suspend accounts that break these terms.

11. Disclaimers and liability

Moguru is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we disclaim implied warranties and aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses. Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection law that can't be limited by contract.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Singapore, except where your local consumer law says otherwise.
